Monroe County Legislator Robert Colby represents the 20th Legislative District, which includes the Town of Ogden and portions of the Towns of Riga and Chili. Robert was appointed to the Legislature in 2004, elected that November, and sworn in for a full four-year term on January 1, 2005.
Legislator Colby currently serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee, Vice Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, and is a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee.
Outside the Legislature, Robert is very active in his hometown of Ogden. He has been a member of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce for more than a decade, and served on the Master Planning Committee since 1999. Robert is also a long-time member of the Ogden Youth Hall of Fame Committee, serving on it since 2000.
A strong advocate for the agricultural community, Legislator Colby has been on the Monroe County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board for over 15 years, joining the board in 1992. He is a twelve-year member of the Monroe County Planning Board, and has been a member of the Monroe County Open Space Initiative Review Committee since 2001. Robert currently serves as a member of the New York State Farm Bureau Dairy Policy Committee, and as a delegate at the Upstate Milk Cooperative. He is former President of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, holding the post from 1994-1999, and was a member of the Board of Directors from 1989-1999. Robert served on the Board of Directors of the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, Inc., and Dairy One, where he was a delegate for eleven years before joining the board.
Robert is a seventh-generation family farmer at Colby Homestead Farms, Inc., where he has been Co-Owner/Operator and Vice-President for nearly three decades. Legislator Colby graduated from Spencerport High School and earned his degree in Agriculture from SUNY Alfred. Robert is a lifelong resident of Ogden and member of the First Congregational Church of Spencerport. At his parish, he is currently a member of the Finance Committee, and is a former Moderator, member of the Board of Christian Action, and Real Estate Committee.
